But first, a word about this series. Originally produced under the trade name "Parenting Pictures," these programs were beautifully originated on motion picture film from the period beginning in the late 70s when the consumer movement gained momentum in the U.S. and throughout the world. In fact, these programs, many of which are still in circulation, have historically been the most widely used and loved film/videos in this subject area, and helped reform childbirth practice from a time when women were routinely not awake during delivery, fathers were not permitted to participate, and mothers spent more than ten days in the hospital - often separated from their babies - recovering from those traumatic experiences.

We are proud to say that our films directly influenced modern obstetrical practices by depicting healthy, medically sound births that featured what were then considered controversial events including:

While a few scenes in this series may be dated by clothing, cars, or haircuts, the information and core messages remain valid and useful. The programs were originally intended to be used by instructors in childbirth classes, and primarily focus on the experiences of real moms and dads. One of the reasons the videos continue to be valuable is that the families narrate their own true stories without expert interpretation. Individual viewers may have questions that arise from the material, however, and are advised to discuss these issues with qualified professionals.
